C-M boys send shuttle hurdle relay team to state track meet

VAN METER — The Colfax-Mingo boys’ shuttle hurdle team saved its best performance of the season for the most important meet of the year.

The Tigerhawks are headed to the state meet after posting a new school record time on May 10. The foursome of sophomore Trinity Schroeder, senior Reegan Van Dyke, senior Nick Barnes and junior Zarek Hill finished with a time of 1 minute, 0.84 seconds to take the gold medal.

The rest of the Colfax-Mingo boys and girls were unable to clinch at-large berths into the state track meet.

The Tigerhawk girls finished in ninth of a 12-team field with 37 points. The boys were 12th with 20 points.

Ten of those points for the C-M boys came in the shuttle hurdle relay. The Tigerhawks now have the 11th best time in Class 2A.

The C-M girls’ best finish on the night came from junior Ilia Hostetter in the 3,000-meter run and in the 4x200 and sprint medley relays. All three were fourth.

Hostetter was fourth in the 3,000 with a time of 12:34.10, and freshman Crystal Lincoln placed sixth in 12:46.70.

The girls’ 4x200 relay included freshman Riley Carroll, juniors Jordan Atwood and Colbee Cunningham and senior Valentine Velghe, and the foursome finished in 1:56.18.

Senior Danielle Decker teamed up with Cunningham, Atwood and Velghe in the sprint medley relay, and that foursome was fourth with a time of 2:01.79.

Junior Braedynn Rawlins finished fifth in the shot put with a throw of 35 feet, 6 inches. Senior Rhiannon Haley finished sixth in the event with a toss of 33-10 1/2.

Senior Ries Wilson also finished fifth in the high jump with a leap of 4-8.

The Tigerhawk boys were fifth in the 4x800 relay. The foursome of junior Cauy Fitch, freshman Colton Hernandez, senior Alex Lewis and freshman Hunter Green finished in 9:20.74.

The state meet begins May 17 at Drake Stadium.
