OTTUMWA — The Prairie City-Monroe girls’ golf team continued to play stiff competition Tuesday evening. The Mustangs traveled east to face Class 4A Ottumwa and Des Moines Lincoln, and they returned home with a second-place finish.
Senior Sabrina Reed earned co-medalist honors with a 45, and the Mustangs shot a 200. That was good enough to defeat Lincoln by 20 strokes. Host Ottumwa shot a 187 at the Par 36 Cedar Creek Golf Course.
“The team played well again tonight,” PCM coach Tony Ford said. “We had a very good score overall.”
Reed’s 45 was a nine-hole personal best score. She was the runner-up medalist after losing a third cardback.
Senior Madeline Mitchell carded a 48 for PCM, sophomore Brooke Dross tied her nine-hole personal-best with a 53 and sophomore Gabbi Van Baale turned in a career-best 54 as the final counting score.
Junior Mack Bussan shot a 57 and sophomore Alexis Dross carded a 60 as non-counting scores.
Reed’s 45 tied Ottumwa’s Jaden Bradford for medalist honors. Kjierstin Ridgway shot a 46 and three Ottumwa golfers — Shayleigh Dunham, Hannah Richardson and Morgan Lawson — all turned in 48s.
PCM’s home meet is 1 p.m. Thursday at Gateway Recreation Golf Course.
