Eileen P. Gardner

Eileen P. Gardner died April 15, 2018, at the age of 101 years.

Eileen was born Oct. 26, 1916, in Colfax, and lived there until after high school. She attended business college and worked in Des Moines before moving to Newton to work in the county recorder’s office, ultimately serving as county recorder in the early 1940s. She later became an executive secretary with Valley National Bank in Des Moines until she retired in 1972.

Eileen resided in Arizona for a time before returning to Iowa. She maintained a strong affinity with Colfax throughout her life, generously contributing to the community over the years and through her estate. A lengthy biography and tribute to Eileen, her spouse, Darrell and family, was published in the Jan. 11, 2018, issue of the Jasper County Tribune. Eileen Gardner is truly a Colfax treasure.

Eileen’s wishes were to donate her body to Des Moines University and a graveside service will take place at a later date.
