Anderson, Van Wyk lead PCM boys to third at EBF

EDDYVILLE — Prairie City-Monroe senior Noah Anderson ran in the 100-meter dash for the first time in a track meet this season.

And he may have run a time fast enough to get into the Drake Relays.

Anderson won the 100 and 200 at the Ike Ryan Relays on Thursday night. He posted an 11.17 second time in the 100, which sits 24th in the state, according to times posted online. His winning time in the 200 was clocked at 22.38 seconds.

Those wins helped the Mustangs to a third-place finish. They scored 86 points and trailed Class 2A powerhouse Pekin (95) by nine. Class 3A Mount Pleasant won the meet with 151 points.

PCM was 37 points better than Williamsburg (49) and Mediapolis rounded out the top five with 38 points.

Junior Preston Van Wyk gave the Mustangs double points in both the 100 and 200. He was second to Anderson in the 200 with a time of 23.21. His time of 11.38 in the 100 was good enough for fourth.

Both Anderson and Van Wyk were part of PCM’s other win. They were the final two legs in the winning 4x200 relay that finished in a season-best time of 1 minute, 32.01 seconds. Juniors Payton Strovers and Wes Cummings were the first two legs.

Strovers was second in the long jump with a leap of 19 feet, 11 inches.

The Mustangs finished third in three events.

Freshman Beau Webb was third in the 1,600 with a personal-best time of 4:52.46, sophomore Nigel Sperfslage was third in the 400 hurdles in 1:02.37 and the shuttle hurdle team also grabbed the bronze.

The shuttle hurdle team included junior Nick Buswell, junior Nick Dredge, Sperfslage and junior Jarron Trausch, and they stopped the clock at 1:05.53.

Junior Isaac Telfer finished fourth in the shot put. His best throw was 43-9 1/2.

PCM return to Eddyville for the EBF Boys Rocket Relays at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
