C-M boys break own record in shuttle hurdle relay

DES MOINES — Colfax-Mingo boys’ track and field coach Matt Barkalow brought a partial squad to the Saydel Eagles Boys Invitational on April 12 to take advantage of a nice night and get some key times and marks on the board for Drake Relays qualifying.

And the Tigerhawks’ shuttle hurdle relay team continues to shine.

The foursome of sophomore Trinity Schroeder, seniors Reegan Van Dyke and Nick Barnes and junior Zarek Hill improved their school record with a time of 1 minute, 1.40 seconds. They grabbed the gold medal and have the third fastest recorded time in Class 2A.

Oelwein (1:00.52) and Albia (1:00.66) also ran their fastest times of the season on Thursday.

The Tigerhawks scored 16 points on the night. They didn’t bring enough athletes to factor into the team race.

The next best finish came in the 4x200 relay as the foursome of Schroeder, Van Dyke, junior Holister Koenig and Hill finished fifth with a time of 1:37.30.

Van Dyke scored the other two team points. He finished seventh in the high jump with a season-best leap of 5 feet, 10 inches.
