Barbara Reno

Barbara Louise (Couper) Reno, 68 of Lebo, Kansas, formerly from Newton, died Jan. 13, 2018 at her home with her husband at her side. A memorial service will be held on Saturday April 14th at the Newton Elks Lodge from 1 to 3 p.m.

Barbara Louise Padgett, the daughter of Thomas and Bernadine Fry Padgett, was born May 31, 1949 in Oskaloosa. Barbara was raised and educated in Oskaloosa, graduating from Oskaloosa High School in 1967.

On Nov. 2, 1969, Barbara was united in marriage to Dale Mich. They were married until Dale’s death on May 20, 1983. On June 21, 1986, Barbara was united in marriage to Randy Couper. They were married until Randy’s death on July 27, 2008. On Jan. 8, 2011, Barbara was united in marriage to Chris Reno.

Barbara was employed by the Newton School District serving as the director of food services until her retirement in 2009.

Survivors include her husband, Chris Reno of Lebo, Kan.; sons Todd Mich of Newton; Jack Mich of Waterloo, daughter Kim (Mike) Herbold of Newton and her two grandsons, Zach Mich of Oskaloosa and Jake Herbold of Newton. She is also survived by her brothers, Ron (Jan) Padgett and Rex Padgett of Oskaloosa; Jack (Barb) Padgett of Lynnville and nieces and nephews.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dale Mich, and husband Randy Couper and nephew Matt Padgett.

Barbara will always be remembered for her ability to talk to anyone and her story telling. She had the uncanny ability to bring humor into any situation and she will be missed by many.
