• Gregory S. Smith, 44, of Newton, was charged with third-degree burglary after authorities were called at 9:39 a.m. Feb. 26 to 519 E. Third St. S. Officers were called about money being taken from several residents, including four Progress Industries clients. Smith told officers he used a needle nose plier to gain entry into the apartment office and stole money. He was cited and released to appear.

• Christopher L. Cleveland, 35, homeless, was charged with fourth-degree theft after authorities were called at 3:28 a.m. March 11 to Walmart. Officers were told of a shoplifting incident that occurred overnight where Cleveland and Melissa Whitehead loaded a shopping cart with $280.05 worth of items and exited without paying. Cleveland was located at 2:10 a.m. Sunday at 1230 First Ave. E. and arrested. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
