Lawrence Gibbon “Gib” Copeland III, 66, of Newton, formerly of Coralville, died Friday, March 9, 2018, at his home. A celebration of Gib’s life will be at 6 p.m. Friday, April 6 at North Ridge Pavilion at 2250 in Coralville, 2250 Holiday Road. Memorials may be made to the Coralville Food Pantry.

Gib, the son of Lawrence Gibbon and Doris (Green) Copeland II, was born Sept. 25, 1951, in Nashville, Tenn. As a young boy he moved to Newton, where he would later graduate from Newton High School in 1969. Gib attended Drake University and later graduated from the University of Iowa with degrees in economics and computer science.

Gib was united in marriage with Kristine Quinn Dec. 6, 1980, in Iowa City. They made their home for a short time in Nashua, N.H., before residing in Coralville for almost 30 years. Gib owned and operated Coral Software, providing software engineering services to other companies. Gib was a talented bass guitarist and was a member of area bands. He also enjoyed traveling. Gib had recently moved back to Newton.

Those left to survive Gib are his wife, Kristine Quinn of Coralville; daughter, Hilary (Robby) Copeland-Marvin of Marion; granddaughter, Eleonora Marvin; his mother, Doris McTigue of Bozeman, Mont.; brother, Chase (Susan) Copeland of Mica, Wash.; two sisters, Connie (Donnie) Fuqua of Gulf Shores, Ala., and Sara (Clain) Copeland of Bozeman, Mont.; and his nieces. He was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence Gibbon Copeland II.
