Two-year audit of city released

Faller, Kincheloe & Co., PLC, Certified Public Accountants, Des Moines, Iowa released an audit report on the City of Prairie City, Iowa Tuesday for the years ended June 30, 2017 and 2016

The city’s receipts totaled $2,524,224 for the year ended June 30, 2017, a 22 percent increase from the prior year. The receipts included $531,328 in property and other city tax, $50,014 from tax increment financing, $976,465 from charges for service, $321,528 from operating grants, contributions and restricted interest, $457,904 from capital grants, contributions and restricted interest, $155,329 from local option sales tax, $5,448 from unrestricted investment earnings and $26,208 from other general receipts.

The city’s receipts totaled $2,068,232 for the year ended June 30, 2016. The receipts included $540,880 in property and other city tax, $74,865 from tax increment financing, $962,447 from charges for services, $308,718 from operating grants, contributions and restricted interest, $16,747 from capital grants, contributions and restricted interest, $131,702 from local option sales tax, $4,072 from unrestricted investment earnings, and $28,801 from other general receipts.

Disbursements for the year ended June 30, 2017 totaled $2,673,694, a 47 percent increase from the prior year, and included $451,147 for public safety, $206,470 for public works and $168,226 for culture and recreation. Also, disbursements for business type activities totaled $1,546,605.

Disbursements for the year ended June 30, 2016 totaled $1,816,069, and included $370,055 for public safety, $212,808 for public works and $152,889 for culture and recreation. Also, disbursements for business type activities totaled $836,487.
