Hoppin’ Along

Area-Easter egg hunts just around corner

Easter is just a hop, skip and a jump away, and the Prairie City Celebration Commission has confirmed candy will be tossed. The local events committee announced Tuesday its annual Easter Carnival is set for 10 a.m. March 24 in Garden Square Park.

According to Prairie City Celebration volunteer Christy Lindsay, kids games will be set up throughout the park beginning at 10 a.m. with the main event being the candy toss starting at 11 a.m. Volunteers will throw candy on the Garden Square lawn and all kids in attendance will get the chance to hunt the sweets down and fill their springtime buckets and pails.

Lindsay said the Celebration Commission is still confirming a rain location that will be announced soon.

For kids who can’t get enough of the Easter fun, there are more than a half dozen Easter Egg hunts in Prairie City, Monroe, Colfax, Mingo and Baxter in the week leading to and on Easter Sunday.

The Monroe Elementary PTA is hosting its annual Spring Fling 9 to 11 a.m. March 24 in the PCM High School gym. The event will include games, inflatables and an an egg hunt for kindergarten age kids. Crafts will also be available for $2 to $5 as a fundraiser for the PTA.

A complete listing of area-Easter egg hunts can be found in the graphic in this week's edition of the Prairie City News.

Editor's note: A previous version of this story listed March 25 as the date for the Easter Carnival. The event is actually taking place March 24.
