The street lights in downtown Newton were dark Monday and Tuesday evening with lighting around the courthouse square and North Second Avenue impacted.
According to a report from Alliant Energy, there was a short in the conduit running from an electrical structure north of the square to the alley between Uncle Nancy’s and Aleya. To fix the issue, upgrades need to be made to the wire in the conduit. Until the wire is fixed, the street lights in the area need to remain off.
The City of Newton is currently working with Alliant to remedy the outage, according to city administrator Matt Muckler.
