• Joshua A. Miller, 38, of Newton, was charged with public intoxication after authorities were called at 2:22 p.m. Feb. 27 to First Avenue. Upon arrival, officers found Miller intoxicated with blood coming from his mouth. He smelled strongly of alcohol, had slurred speech and his eyes were bloodshot and watery. He said he had been assaulted with a bat but refused to give any further information. He was taken to Skiff Medical Center for treatment before being taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Rynold M. Dangan, 38, of Newton, was charged with domestic abuse assault — injury or mental illness — after authorities were called at 1:36 p.m. Tuesday to 1786 W. Fourth St. N. Officers were called about a domestic fight and spoke to the victim who said Dangan had been drinking and became upset and punched her in the side of the head. Officers identified the injury, a red and swollen area near the right eye of victim. Dangan appeared unsteady and his speech was slurred. He denied striking the victim. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Anthony S. Hinton, 31, of Newton, was charged with driving while barred after authorities pulled him over at 1:03 a.m. Tuesday in the 1800 block of South 13th Avenue East. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Gary L. Snodgrass, 79, of Newton, was charged with operating while under the influence after authorities pulled him over at 8:56 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of North Street and Main Street in Reasnor. Upon approaching the vehicles, officers smelled a strong odor of alcohol. Snodgrass admitted to consuming approximately three to four cans of beer. He has blood-shot, watery eyes and had a BAC of .106. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
