Keith Hackney

Keith Hackney, 82, of Gold Canyon, Ariz., (formerly of Adel and Kunia, Hawaii), passed away Sunday, Feb. 11, 2018. He was born July 24, 1935, to Clarence and Frances (Tinnermeier) Hackney in Newton.

Keith graduated from Newton High School in 1953.

He married Carol Newberry in 1953. Three children were born into that union which survive him: Barbara (Dick) Wicks of Adel, Douglas (Stephanie) of Round Rock, Texas, and Jeffrey (Michele) of Temple, Texas. His sister, Linda (Douglas) Larson of Iowa City; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews also survive him.

In 2003, he married Shirley Green, who survives; along with four stepchildren, Bobby (Carol) Green of Des Moines, Lori Bond of Mesa, Ariz., Debbie Rose of Woodward and Judy Johnson of Des Moines; seven step-grandchildren; and eight step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, David and Larry.

He was employed by telephone and electric utility companies until his retirement in 1993. After retiring, he worked in property management positions in Hawaii and Arizona.
He was a member of Spirit of Hope Lutheran Church in Mesa, Ariz., an active member of Mesa Host Lions for more than 40 years and an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, St. Louis Cardinals, Arizona State Sun Devils and the Arizona Diamond Backs.

As per his request, his body was donated to Science Care in Phoenix, Ariz. A memorial service will be March 17 at the Spirit of Hope Lutheran Church in Mesa, Ariz.
Keith asked that some of his ashes be scattered at the "Old Place" near his childhood farm in Newton, and near Hana, Hawaii. His remaining ashes will be interned at a later date in Gold Canyon, Ariz.
