Caregiving training offered at Holy Trinity

A series of three training classes in caregiving is being offered in February and March at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Newton. Muriel Johannesen, an Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) Minister of Word and Service, will lead the Tuesday classes at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 20 and 27, and March 13 at Holy Trinity.

Christian caregiving is an art, a skill and a gift offered by church members to one another in congregational life. Sometimes, however, there is a feeling of insecurity regarding what to say or not say when visiting someone who is grieving, recovering from illness or lonely. The training will offer help in knowing how to handle situations and knowing what to say when it’s difficult to know what to say. Also included in the training is support in how to talk about trusting in God’s help when life takes a turn downward.

Ms. Johannesen is a longtime community resident who has served on staff at First Lutheran and most recently at St. John’s Lutheran, Grinnell.

Preregistration is not required for this class, but an expression of interest shared with Pastor Ahntholz would help facilitate planning 641-792-1683 or email pastor@htlchurch.com.
