Earl W. Tish, 83, of Newton, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2018, at the Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 5 at the First United Methodist Church in Newton. The family will greet friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 4 at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. Memorials to the First United Methodist Church or Newton Dollars For Scholars may be left at the funeral home or the church the morning of the service.

Earl, the son of Alfred and Dena (Van Hoover) Tish, was born March 17, 1934, on the family farm in Poweshiek County. He grew up in the Montezuma area helping work on the family farm, a farm in which he would later own. Earl graduated from Montezuma High School.

On June 1, 1956, Earl was united in marriage with Marilyn Slay in Oskaloosa. A short time later Earl left to serve his country in the U.S. Army, serving until his honorable discharge in 1958. After returning from the service, Earl and Marilyn made their home in Newton. Earl worked for the Maytag Company for more than 39 years as a supervisor in the porcelain department, retiring in 1989. He attended the First United Methodist Church in Newton and was a past member of the Moose Lodge and the Maytag Management Club. Earl always took care of his family, putting others before himself. He never missed one of his children or grandchildren’s events and supported them in all of their activities.

Earl is survived by his wife, Marilyn Tish of Newton; children, Kevin (Cyndi) Tish of Newton and Kimbra (Kevin) Korte of Newton; five grandchildren, Brandon (Kelsey) Tish, Blake Tish, Bryce Tish, Erin (Todd) Dickerson and Brad Korte; his great-grandchildren, Hailey and Celeste Dickerson; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Colleen (Lavern) Johnson and Norma Jean (Jim) Farrington.
