• Katrina M. Deterding, 23, of Newton, was charged with fifth-degree theft at 8 p.m. Jan. 2 after police were called to Walmart. Employees told police Deterding didn’t pay for her items in the self checkout. Deterding told police it was an accident. She was released and issued a citation to appear in court.
• Austin L. Lamb, 18, of Newton, was charged with third-degree burglary at 2:40 a.m. Jan. 30 after police were called to a residence on 19th Street South about a burglary to a garage. The victim told police someone broke into his garage and had taken a chainsaw and various tools. The victim also had video of the theft. Police identified the person in the video as Lamb. Lamb told police he had taken the chainsaw but he wouldn’t answer anymore questions. He was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.
• Rudy A. Davis, 32, address unknown, was charged with two counts of third-degree burglary and fifth-degree theft for two incidents at a storage facility at Brookwood. On Sept. 25, the victim told police one of his employees had his bike stolen out of the storage unit. The incident happened Sept. 10 and video surveillance showed Davis leaving the unit with the bike. On Oct. 10, another victim was contacted about her storage unit being broken into. When the victim opened it, it had been ransacked. The video surveillance from Sept. 16 showed Davis loading items that belonged to the victim into a vehicle. He was arrested Feb. 1 and taken to the Jasper County Jail.
• Kristina Scott, address unknown, was arrested on a warrant for fifth-degree theft at 11:59 p.m. Jan. 31 after being located at 307 E. 16th St. N. She was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
• Cameron W. Ferrell, 29, of Newton, was charged with domestic abuse assault injury or mental illness at 5:20 p.m. Feb. 1 after police were called to the corner of East Fourth Street North and North Eighth Avenue East. Police heard shouting while outside the residence, and Ferrell came out of the residence asking police to leave. Police also heard a woman shouting for help inside the home. Ferrell was asked to not go back inside the home, and when he attempted to go back inside, police used a taser on him, and he resisted arrest. The victim told police Ferrell had punched her about 30 times. He was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.
