Jeremy Z. Beeler, 34, of Newton, was charged with operating while under the influence, third offense and driving while license denied or revoked at 11:45 p.m. Jan. 21 after police stopped a vehicles whose registered owner was revoked. The registered owner was identified as the driver. He had red and watery eyes, and he failed a field sobriety test. He refused a preliminary breath test. He was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Patti L. Gardner, 47, of Newton, was charged with public intoxication at 8:33 p.m. Jan. 23 after police were called to the front lobby of the department. Gardner was in the lobby yelling and acting irate. She told police her husband had a diabetic reaction and was laying on the floor unresponsive at 1230 First Ave. E. and an ambulance was dispatched to the location. Gardner was yelling and attempting to jump inside passing vehicles. She smelled of alcohol. She told police she had two drinks, and she didn’t drink often. Gardner failed a sobriety test for failure to follow directions. She told police she couldn’t do other tests because of a spinal injury. She was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.

John L. Allensworth, 52, of Newton, was charged with fifth-degree theft at 6:53 p.m. Jan. 11 after police were called to Sinclair on First Avenue West. Allensworth is accused of concealing merchandise in his pockets and leaving the gas station without paying for the items. The items had a total value of $62. He was released and issued a citation to appear in court.
