• Amanda M. Kite, 38, of Barnes City, was charged with forgery at 2:42 p.m. Jan. 23. Police were called at 2:45 p.m. Oct. 23 to Great Western Bank in Newton, in reference to a counterfeit $20 bill. When an employee questioned Kite about the bill, she gave a fake name and address. Police identified Kite and she was arrested on a wrrant at the Mahaska County Jail.
• Travis J. VanBaale, 26, of Newton, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia at 1:25 p.m. Jan. 23 when he was in possession of a glass water bong used to smoke marijuana. The bong had burnt residue that smelled of marijuana. He was released and issued a citation to appear in court.
