Newton Police Department
• Matthew A. Bernier, 33, of Newton, was charged wtih public intoxication at 5:21 p.m. Wednesday after police were called to 1020 E. 12th St. N. in reference to an intoxicated male passed out on the third floor of the building. The man was laying unconscious in the apartment hallway and police saw two beer cans next to him. Bernier told police he had two drinks during the day. He was unable to stand and he failed sobriety tests. Bernier's breath test was more than 0.08. He was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.
• Cody G. Thompson, 34, homeless, was arrested at 6:36 p.m. Thursday at 400 N. Second Ave. E. on a Jasper County warrant for probation violation. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
• Reggie G. Smith, 37, of Colfax, was arrested at 11:18 a.m. Wednesday at the adult probation office on a Jasper County warrant for probation violation. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
