Newton Police Department

• Michele R. Ferguson, 39, of Newton was charged with driving while barred at 9:05 p.m. Jan. 9 when police saw a vehicle traveling in the 500 block of East Seventh Street North. The vehicle parked in the 100 block of East Fourth Street North and officer’s made contact with the driver identified as Ferguson. She told police she knew her license wasn’t valid and when she saw the officer, she parked the vehicle. Ferguson was released and issued a citation to appear in court.

• Billi J. Weaver, 51, of Newton, was charged with driving while barred at 7:16 p.m. Jan. 12 after police initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle that didn’t have headlights on. The driver was identified as Weaver. She had a driver’s license status of barred. She was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Kendyl J. Simpson, 28, of Newton, was charged with operating while under the influence at 10:44 p.m. Jan. 9 after police were called to 212 W. Eighth St. S. in reference to a motor vehicle accident, dispatch advised a vehicle hit a parked car and the airbag had deployed. Police made contact with the driver identified as Simpson. She smelled of alcohol and had bloodshot, watery eyes. She told police she had drank two 20-ounce beers that night and felt buzzed. She refused a sobriety test or breath test. She was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Michael A. Driskill, 46, of Newton, was cited with failure to obey traffic control device at 6:10 p.m. Jan. 15 when he was driving eastbound in the 1200 block of South Eighth Avenue East. A second vehicle was driving southbound in the 700 block East 12th Street South and had the right of way, as they entered the intersection, Driskill slid on the ice and went through the stop sign striking the second vehicle. No injuries were reported.
