Thomas “Tom”  Cameron, 83, formerly of Burlington, died at 5:45 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018, at the Bickford Cottage in Quincy, Ill.

Born Dec. 20, 1934, in Newton, he was the son of John Keith and Naomi Moon Cameron. On Sept. 5, 1959, he married Linda Gladys King in Fairfield.  She died Nov. 8, 2013.
Tom was an insurance agent for more than 50 years, working for Hawkeye Bank, Cady Insurance and MFS Mutual.

He was a 1953 graduate of Newton High School and received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Northern Iowa.

He was a member of St. Luke United Church of Christ and was on the church council.  He was a former member of the Burlington Golf Club, Kiwanis for more than 50 years and served on the board at Hope Haven and on the Low Rent Housing board.  He was a gifted woodworker, loved taking photos, golfing, coached youth sports, played football but loved baseball.  Tom especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and family.

Survivors include one son, Scott (Jennie) Cameron of Quincy; one daughter, Kristin Cameron of Quincy; five grandchildren, Hannah Cameron, Logan Cameron, Nathan Cameron, Riley Cameron and Chris Davis; two sisters, Patricia Chalstrom of Fort Dodge and Ramona Holdsworth of Newton; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from noon to 7 p.m. with the family to receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan 19 at Prugh-Thielen Funeral Home.

The funeral service for Mr. Cameron will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 20 at Prugh-Thielen Funeral Home. Burial will be in Salem South Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will follow the burial at Mazzio’s in Burlington.

Memorials have been established for Hope Haven and the Burlington Kiwanis Club.
