Lillian M. Long went home to be with her Savior Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2018, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton, under the care of Mercy Hospice.
A time of remembrance and celebration of life will be at noon Monday, Jan. 15 at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to noon, one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers and as an expression of sympathy, memorials may be designated to Lillian’s family in her name.
Lillian Marie Long, 90, was born Feb. 4, 1927, in Marshalltown, the daughter of Theodore and Margaret (Nelson) Mahle. She was a Le Grand High School graduate, Class of 1944, and later attended the business college in Marshalltown.
On May 9, 1945, Lillian was united in marriage with Paul Duncan Long in Seattle Wash. Together, Lillian and Paul co-owned and operated Long’s Custom Carpet in Newton. She had devoted her life to her family, and will be missed by those who knew and loved her. She was a past member of the Wittemberg Church and Wittemberg Grange.
Lillian is survived by her children and their spouses, Jeff and Nancy Long of Newton, John and Jean Long of Omaha, Neb., Margie Hathaway, Annette and Dan Thompson and Cathie Mundell, all of Newton; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many good neighbors and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul July 1, 2005; and her sisters and brothers.
