Snow play day

With the weather finally breaking from the sub-zero temperatures, my family grabbed our snow pants and sled and headed outside to enjoy the snow. After weeks of telling my girls it was too cold, and it was, they were super excited to play in the fluffy winter goodness.

After I got a couple of layers on, since I don’t actually own snow pants anymore, and helped the girls get suited up, we went out to the backyard to check out the snow. When it was so cold, it wasn’t good for making anything, but with the temperature climbing, it was perfect to pack together.

The girls were quick to grab some snow and start hurling at each other, me, their dad and just about anything else. Thankfully, they don’t have the best aim and nobody got any snow to the face or was hit with any velocity.

We then set to work building a snowman. I started by rolling up the bottom ball, which had me down on my hands and knees going in circles. I realized it has been a while since I built a snowman, since last year we hardly had any snow.

My oldest was also hard at work on the middle ball, which she did a really good job rolling up. Once she was happy with its size, I grabbed it and we packed it on. With just the top, or head, left, I set to work and not long after we had our snowman.

My youngest, who wasn’t very interested in rolling up the snow, set out to find the perfect sticks for arms. She came back with two sticks that really did make good arms and we stuck them in so it looked like the snowman was ready for a hug. Olaf from “Frozen” has clearly made an impact on my girls.

We finished up snowman with some rocks for eyes, a mouth and buttons and added a carrot for a nose. We haven’t named it yet, but I’m sure it will be something like Snowy.

From there we headed to the slopes. Since we live next to the golf course, hills are not hard to find and we didn’t have to trek very far before we found the perfect hill. I do have to say, I didn’t pick the biggest hill because climbing back up after plunging down isn’t a favorite of my girls so I thought I would make it a little easier on them and me.

A trip to my parents to make two more snowmen and a ton of sledding later, we were done with our snow day. I am excited we were actually able to get out and play this year and even add a new decoration to our yard.
