Newton woman faces child endangerment charge

Drunk driving yields arrest in Colfax

COLFAX — A Newton woman is facing a child endangerment charge after she was stopped for drunk driving in Colfax.

Julleen C. Winter, 29, was leaving the Git N’ Go in Newton earlier this month when someone called her into police for being intoxicated and driving, according to court documents. The caller told police the driver was headed to Mitchellville and had a child with her in the vehicle.

Winter was stopped by law enforcement at 5:06 p.m. Dec. 8 on West State Street in Colfax for failure to obey a traffic control device. She failed field sobriety tests and had a blood alcohol content of .181.

Winter was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail. She was charged with child endangerment and operating while under the influence-first offense.

She is set to appear in Jasper County District Court at 9 a.m. Jan. 3 for a preliminary hearing.
