Baxter hoops swept by Grand View Christian

BAXTER — The Baxter basketball teams were swept by Grand View Christian during a non-conference doubleheader on Friday night.

In the girls’ game, Grand View Christian defeated the Bolts 54-35. The Class 1A No. 2 Thunder won the boys’ game 80-58.

Leading the Baxter girls was senior Kaitlynn Kelly, who finished with a career-high seven points with three rebounds and four steals. Senior Jordynn Wesselink added six points and eight rebounds, sophomore Holly Jessen had six points and five boards and senior Sailor Hinegardner finished with six points, three rebounds and two assists.

Junior Kaylin Van Ryswyk grabbed six boards and freshman McKenzie Eslinger had five rebounds.

The Bolts made 13-of-56 from the floor and were 7-of-20 from the foul line.

For the Baxter boys, junior Will Clapper led the way with 19 points and 10 rebounds. He was 8-of-11 from the floor.

Sophomore Cole Damman also had 19 points and dished out five assists. Damman nailed three 3-pointers in the loss.

Senior Noah Galloway scored eight points, senior Braydon Aker brought down eight boards and delivered three assists and senior Travis Lindemoen recorded a team-high six assists.

The Bolts (3-2) were 22-of-47 from the floor but only 6-of-21 from 3-point range and 8-of-16 from the foul line.

Grant DeMeulenaere scored a game-high 23 points, and Arturo Montes added 22 points, eight rebounds and six assists to lead Grand View Christian (7-0).

Baxter has two more games before the holiday break. The Bolts play at Colo-NESCO on Tuesday and at Don Bosco on Thursday. Both varsity doubleheaders start at 6:30 p.m.
