Lourens gets 100th win in C-M’s SICL sweep

BROOKLYN — Colfax-Mingo’s wrestling team had a banner night against three South Iowa Cedar League foes on Tuesday, and the night ended with a big individual honor for senior Colton Lourens.

Lourens picked up his 100th career victory with a 3-0 night, and the Tigerhawks dominated Belle Plaine, Montezuma and host BGM.

Colfax-Mingo defeated Belle Plaine 54-6, took down BGM 54-24 and blasted Montezuma 60-12.

“We opened things up tonight,” Colfax-Mingo coach Erin Hume said. “We were aggressive all night and competed in matches that maybe we weren’t supposed to compete in. I was very happy with everyone’s effort tonight.”

Lourens was one of six Tigerhawks who won all three of their matches. Lourens took two forfeits and then finished his night with a pin. He now has 101 career wins and is 14-1 on the season.

Junior Cauy Fitch won all three of his matches by fall, and sophomore Noah Strohmeyer, senior Nathan Evans, sophomore Trystin Ross and senior Chance Rice were all 3-0, too.

Junior Ilia Hostetter made her varsity debut and went 2-0 with two forfeits. Sophomore Tim Carroll also went 2-0, while senior Nick Barnes and sophomore Cyden Fitch were each 2-1.

Cauy Fitch, who is ranked 10th in Class 1A at 120 pounds, spent a total of 3 minutes, 50 seconds on the mat, recording all of his pins in the first period. He is now 15-1 on the season.

Rice, who is ranked fifth at 160 pounds, earned two first-period pins and took a forfeit at 170. Rice is now 16-1 on the season, and he has 96 career victories.

The Tigerhawks took 15 forfeits on the night and finished 13-5 in contested matches. All 13 wins came by fall.

Against Belle Plaine, the Tigerhawks finished 2-2 in contested matches but outscored the Plainsmen 12-6 in those matches. They took seven forfeits.

The Tigerhawks were 5-2 in contested matches against BGM and took four forfeits. They were handed four forfeits against Montezuma and were 6-1 in contested matches.

Colfax-Mingo hosts Baxter and Coon Rapids-Bayard in a non-conference triangular at 6 p.m. Thursday in Colfax.
