Newton Public Library hosting author book signing

Library Holiday Closures

The Newton Public Library will be closed on the following dates:

Dec. 14 — Library closed from 10 a.m. to noon for staff training

Dec. 25 — Closed all day for Christmas

Jan. 1 — Closed all day for New Year’s Day

Local Author Book Signing

6:30 p.m. Tuesday — Join us in the Library meeting room as local author, Shannon Kotz and her son Vinny, share their book, “The Little Lost Nutcracker.” Children are invited to make a craft, enjoy hot cocoa and treats and listen to part of the book. Flash Book Sale

10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 19 and 20 — Support your library and pick up some great books! Join the Friends of the Newton Public Library for a book sale in the library meeting room, on Dec. 19 and Dec. 20. The book sale will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., both days. For $5, you can get a Friends of the Library tote bag and all the books it can carry. Some exclusions may apply.

New App for
Downloading eBooks

We’re introducing a new way to download library ebooks and audiobooks! This new app offers a simpler way to download and read digital materials. Android and Apple users may download the free Libby by Overdrive app in the iTunes or Google Play stores for quicker, easier downloading. To learn more or receive additional help with your device, please call the library to make an appointment with Becca Klein, 641-792-4108.

Tech Time by Appointment

2 to 4 p.m. Dec. 28 — Need a little help with that new Kindle or iPad? Make an appointment for one-on-one help with downloading free library ebooks and audiobooks to your tablet or mobile device. Call 641-792-4108 to reserve your time slot.

What Should You Know About Gambling?

6 p.m. Jan. 11 — Mandi Vellinga from Employee and Family Resources offers an inside look at gambling addiction. This informative program will discuss signs of addiction, treatment options, and the rising rate of gambling addiction among teens and young adults. This program is free and open to the public. All ages welcome.
