Lynnville-Sully wrestlers beat Collins-Maxwell Spartans

MAXWELL — Lynnville-Sully notched another dual win on the wrestling mat Thursday. The Hawks won five of the seven matches on the night for a 27-12 victory over host Collins-Maxwell.

The Hawks have eight wrestlers now, but only five suited up against the Spartans, which only had four of its seven wrestlers suited up.

Lynnville-Sully senior Josh Dunsbergen defeated Collins-Maxwell junior Caleb Fullteron 5-3 in the 138-pound match. The two were tied 2-2 after one period and Dunsbergen used a two-point near fall to grab a 4-3 lead at the end of the second stanza. He scored an escape for the final margin.

Forfeit wins by seniors Carson Dunsbergen and Cayden Johnson at 152 and 160, respectively. Lynnville-Sully was up 15-0. The Spartans got on the scoreboard with forfeit wins at 195 and 106 by senior Cody Galbraith and sophomore Carter Davis.

The only other match contested on the mat was at 113 pounds. The Hawks’ junior Ben Van Wyk pinned freshman Jacob Pierick of Collins-Maxwell right at the end of the first period.

Lynnville-Sully posted another six points up with a forfeit win by freshman C.J. Snethen at 120.

It was the first meet of the season for Carson Dunsbergen, who joined the team late. Also back out is senior Sage Zylstra. A junior foreign exchange student, Hannes Van Der Meer is out for the Hawks.

Lynnville-Sully is 3-2 in dual action this season. The Hawks wrestle in the Saydel tournament at 9 a.m. Saturday.
