• Bryce E. Nell, 31, of Newton, was charged with domestic abuse assault after an incident Oct. 22. Nell is accused of getting into an altercation at a residence on East Eight Street South. When the victim refused to let him use her phone, he unplugged her oxygen machine and began tossing furniture around. When the victim went to plug her oxygen machine back in, Nell allegedly threw a chair which struck her right leg, leaving a scratch below her right knee. Nell was arrested Dec. 3 and taken to the Jasper County Jail.
• Dillon R. Phillips, 22, of Newton, was charged with possession of controlled substance-marijuana at 7:36 p.m. Nov. 4 after police were called to a suspicious person at Woodland Heights Apartments. Police made contact with the man who matched the description of the suspicious person. The man was identified as Phillips. He told police had marijuana on his person and he had smoked a bowl at 3:50 p.m. that day. Police searched him and discovered marijuana on his person. He was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.
