TAMA — The Baxter boys’ basketball team had to rally for its first win in program history Tuesday night.
The Bolts trailed by four at halftime but outscored Meskwaki Settlement School by 34-25 in the second half and claimed a 60-55 road victory.
Junior Will Clapper led the way for the Bolts with 27 points and 10 rebounds.
Senior Braydon Aker added eight points and 13 rebounds, and sophomore Cole Damman chipped in eight points and six assists.
The Bolts are now 1-1 on the season and 1-1 in the Iowa Star Conference.
The loss was the first for the Warriors, who are now 3-1 overall and 3-1 in the conference. The Meskwaki girls are also now 3-1.
In the girls’ game, a poor shooting night doomed the Bolts (0-4, 0-2) as they fell to Meskwaki 68-32.
The Bolts were 12-of-48 from the floor and made only half of their free throws (8-of-16).
Senior Sailor Hinegardner led the Bolts with 10 points, two rebounds and two assists, but no other player had more than six points.
Freshman McKenzie Eslinger scored six points and collected three rebounds. Sophomore Holly Jessen had four points, two rebounds and two steals and senior Jordynn Wesselink tallied four points and three rebounds.
Sophomore Sadie Meyer grabbed a team-high six boards, and freshman Sophie Meyer tallied four rebounds.
