Barbara J. Van Dalen Hickey went home to be with her Savior Sunday, Dec. 3, 2017, at Accura Healthcare of Newton West under the care of Hospice.
A time of remembrance and celebration of life will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 7 at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton. Visitation will follow the service with a lunch in the Pence Tribute Center with burial in the Mt. Zion Cemetery in rural Newton. In lieu of flowers, and as an expression of sympathy, memorials may be designated to Jasper County Animal Rescue League or to Barb’s family in her name.
Barbara Jo Van Dalen Hickey, 67, was born July 26, 1950, in Des Moines, and was the daughter of Gerald Wayne and Valeta Fern (Gifford) Van Dalen. Barb was a homemaker and employed as a custodian for several area restaurants. She enjoyed all animals and her family.
Barb is survived by her brother, Lehrl (Judy Brodersen) Van Dalen of Monroe; sister-in-law, Fern Van Dalen of Monroe; two nieces; a nephew; and her neighbors and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Larry Van Dalen; and a sister, Lois Beth Van Dalen.
