Newton Police Department

• Cassandra L. Osborn, 20, and Dakota S. Utterback, 19, both of Newton, were charged with fifth-degree theft at 6:24 p.m. Nov. 23 after police were called to Walmart in reference to shoplifting. An employee told police Osborn and Utterback had both concealed a JBL speaker on their persons. Osborn and Utterback both agreed to speak to police and admitted to taking the merchandise without paying for it. The items were valued at $55 each. Osborn and Utterback were both released and each issued a citation to appear in court.

• Michael R. Prunty, 28, of Newton, was charged with fourth-degree theft at 12:15 p.m. Dec. 2 at Hy-Vee. A store employee told police Prunty walked out of the store without paying for a cart full of groceries. The items were a total value of $260. He was released and issued a citation to appear in court.

Sheriff’s Office

Dylan T. Poe, 24, of Newton, was charged with fourth-degree theft at 4 p.m. Nov. 24 when the victim reported that Poe stole her debit card and made a withdrawal at the ATM for $200. The victim said Poe also used the card to make an online purchase in the amount of $272.07. The transactions were not authorized by the card owner. Poe admitted to making the purchases. He was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.
