Newton Police Department

• Desirae M. Leinen, 31, of Des Moines, was charged with third-degree theft at 5:40 p.m. Nov. 11 after police were called to the Skiff Medical Center emergency room in reference to a theft of a cell phone. Police saw a video of a female walking out of the hospital with the phone. Police located Leinen at a gas station near Skiff Medical Center. She told police the phone was inside of a vehicle near Skiff. Police found the vehicle in the 200 block of North Fourth Avenue East. Leinen was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Sandra M. Lane, 42, of Newton, was charged with driving while barred at 5:21 p.m. Nov. 9 after police pulled over a vehicle for traveling without headlights. Officers pulled Lane over on East Seventh Street North. Her license was barred, and she was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Amanda M. Llanes, 23, of Newton, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia at 12:13 a.m. Nov. 10 after police conducted a traffic stop in the 1300 block of First Avenue West. Llanes allegedly tried to conceal a small multi-color pipe between the front passenger seat and the center console of the vehicle. She was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Daniel J. Poole, 31, of Des Moines, was charged with introducing intoxicants or drugs into institution, possession of controlled substance, first offense and possession of controlled substance — methamphetamine at 9 a.m. Nov. 12 after police were called to the 1800 block of West Fourth Street. A man was slumped behind the wheel of a car. The car was parked in the entrance road of Woodland Heights Apartments. The man was identified as Poole and he didn’t have a driver’s license. Police patted him down and found four bags of marijuana, numerous pills and tar like substance that was wrapped in cellophane paper. He told police he didn’t have any other contraband on him. While at the Jasper County Jail, a jailer found Poole to be in possession of a small plastic bag containing a crystal rock.

• Adam J. Morrow, 25, of Newton, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia at 5:41 p.m. Nov. 4 after police were called to 820 First Ave. W. for a car accident. The driver, Morrow, admitted to police he had used heroin in the bathroom of Git N Go and left behind a syringe and other paraphernalia. A search of his pockets also revealed two syringes. Morrow was released and issued a citation to appear in court.
