Panther women end long losing streak to Cyclones

CEDAR FALLS — Ellie Howell and Kennedy Kirkpatrick both scored 17 points, and the Northern Iowa women’s basketball team ended a long losing streak against Iowa State with a 57-53 win over the Cyclones on Tuesday night.

The Panthers led by five at halftime and held on for their first win over the Cyclones since 2002 in front of 2,099 fans at the McLeod Center.

Iowa State (1-1) got 18 points, seven rebounds and five assists from Bridget Carlton but no other Cyclone scored more than eight.

Taylor Hagen scored 11 points off the bench for Northern Iowa (1-1). Megan Maahs grabbed 13 rebounds.
