John J. Dafflitto, 63, of Newton, was charged with operating while under the influence, first offense, at 9:57 p.m. Nov. 3 after police were called to a driving complaint on First Avenue West. The driver was driving erratically and crossing the center line and running red lights. The vehicle then parked in the lot of New Star. The driver was identified as Dafflito. He had slow, slurred speech and was swaying while he was standing. Police conducted field sobriety tests and he failed the leg stand tests. He was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail. He had a blood alcohol content of .102.
