Hope for the Homeless

United Presbyterian Church’s seventh through 12th grade youth experienced “Hope for the Homeless” Nov. 4 in the United Presbyterian Church parking lot.

The night began with a time of fellowship and viewing a movie about the realities of homelessness. The youth then constructed shelters out of cardboard and slept in the drizzling wet and cold temperatures to achieve their own understanding of what it was like to sleep without the comforts of home. The event concluded the next morning with a hot breakfast. In addition to the overnighter, the youth collected blankets to be donated to Friends in Hope.

Participating youth included: Mikayla Creech, Garret Beerends, Kennedy Luncsford, Anna Hanbeck and Andrea Freeman. Special thanks to the following event chaperones: Jim Beerends, Duane, Joy and Morgan Daniels, Pastor Don and Cynthia Freeman, Scott Griffith, Christina Hanbeck and Chris Moore.
