Room to Grow

Van Maanen Electric expanding with new headquarters

Signs of growth are popping up in the Newton again with Van Maanen Electric moving its corporate headquarters to a new, larger location. The move will see the company leaving its longtime location at 627 N. 19th Ave. E. to space south of Walmart on Iowa Speedway Drive.

Van Maanen President Nathan Van Maanen said the move marks the business’s expansion and for future growth. The new location will have a two-story office building totaling almost 12,500 square feet and an attached warehouse at more than 60,000 square feet. The added space will house the approximately 140 employees who work at Van Maanen and allow space to grow.

“This is roughly about double the space that we currently have,” Van Maanen said.

While there was no significant timing attached to the move, Van Maanen said they do expect for the new location to be ready in early fall 2018.

“We are pleased that Van Maanen has such a large footprint in Newton and it is really exciting to see they are building a new corporate headquarters and warehouse facility,” Newton Development Corporation Executive Director Frank Liebl said.

Sting the land-locked location the company currents works out of in the industrial area in northern Newton, Liebl said the new area will give them ample space to grow and expand as needed.

“They are a large electrical contractor serving the state of Iowa,” Liebl said. “They have been a good community partner and we are always excited when new investments are made in the community.”

This isn’t the first the time company has expanded in Newton. In 2014, it added approximately 15,400 square feet of storage by expanding its current warehouse and with the addition of a new warehouse. The expansion included a new office, large tool room, wire cutting bay and truck bay.

Founded in 2003, Van Maanen has become one of Iowa’s leading electrical contractors. Work the company provides includes commercial projects with a detailed emphasis on education facilities along with industrial, residential and agricultural clients.
