NHS freshmen lose final football game

INDIANOLA — Newton High’s freshmen were locked in a 21-21 game against host Indianola Friday night, which was the halftime score. The Cardinals were shutout in the second half, losing their final game of the season 34-21.

Trailing 7-0 after the first quarter, Dakota Adams dashed 71 yards for Newton and Josh Meyer kicked the tying extra point. A fumble recovery by Newton’s Lane Arrowood set up the Cardinals’ next score.

Cade Cupples connected with Meyer for a touchdown pass. Newton led 13-7 then fell behind 14-13.

The Cardinals regained the lead on a 63-yard TD pass from Cupples to Gavin Trostel. Gavin Urias had the 2-point conversion run.

On the ensuing kickoff, Indianola tied the game on a 100-yard return for a touchdown. Indianola broke the tie in third quarter on its way to a victory.
