Newton Police Department

• Michael T. Todd, 26, of Newton, was charged with simple assault at 5:09 p.m. Oct. 17 after police were called to a residence on Bungalow Court. The victim told police Todd struck her hand and shoved her while she was attempting to gain control of a child. Todd denied shoving the victim. He was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Joshua W. Schippers, 38, homeless, was charged with violation of no contact order at 1:15 p.m. Oct. 17. Police were called to a residence on 12th Street North in reference to Schippers violating the no contact order. Schippers was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Shad R. Gall, 18, of Newton, was charged with assault causing bodily injury or mental illness at 6:17 p.m. Oct. 16 after police were called to West Fourth Street South. Gall is accused of punching the victim in the jaw on the left and right sides and then striking the victim with a belt. Police also saw cell phone video that recorded part of the incident. Gall allegedly spit inside a vehicle and began yelling for the persons to get out of the vehicle. He struck the vehicle and open door with the belt. Gall was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.
