BGM stops Tigerhawks’ win streak at three

BROOKLYN — BGM snapped the Tigerhawks’ three-game winning streak and stopped its own three-game losing skid during a Class A District 5 home win on Friday.

Colfax-Mingo scored first, but the Bears scored 41 straight points during a 48-13 victory. BGM and Colfax-Mingo are now tied in district play with identical 3-3 records.

Tigerhawk junior Zarek Hill got the Tigerhawks an early lead with a 15-yard touchdown run. The only other points Colfax-Mingo scored on the night came late in the third quarter when senior Reegan Van Dyke connected with senior Alex Lewis for a 23-yard TD.

Hill rushed for 53 yards on six carries, had three catches for 39 yards and finished with five tackles on defense.

Van Dyke was 11-for-22 through the air for 89 yards and a TD. He also rushed for 41 yards. Lewis hauled in five passes for 42 yards. Junior Damir Gumerov tallied 37 yards on six carries in his return to the lineup.

Defensively, senior Jake Dunsbergen led Colfax-Mingo with 11 1/2 tackles. Senior Colton Lourens collected six tackles and a sack and junior Ahren Teed also had five tackles.

The Bears improved to 3-5 on the season. The win locked up fourth place in the district with one game to go.

Colfax-Mingo (4-5) ends its season with a home game against Gladbrook-Reinbeck at 7 p.m. Friday in Colfax.
