Larry L. Altemeier

Larry L. Altemeier, 74, of Newton died on Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2017, at Skiff Medical Center. The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Monday, Oct. 16, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family requests that if you’re a Hawkeye fan you wear your Hawkeye gear to the visitation in honor of Larry. Memorials in Larry’s name may be left at the funeral home.

Larry, the son of Clare and Katherine (Flora) Altemeier, was born on Jan. 14, 1943 in Newton. He graduated from Baxter High School in 1961. On Nov. 21, 1964, Larry was united in marriage with Connie Clark in Newton. He was a lifelong farmer in rural Jasper County. Larry was a lifetime member of the Emerson Hough Chapter of the Izaak Walton League. He enjoyed fishing and loved the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Those left to honor Larry’s memory are his daughters Kellie Dodge (Steve Wertz) of Kellogg and Staci (Mike) Bird of Newton; son, Justin Altemeier (Kelli Aldrich) of Newton; five grandchildren, Mikie (Lance) Hansen, Ethan Dodge, Jaci Reeves, Jaden Reeves, and Sophia Bird; step-grandchildren, Shelby, Logan, and Mollie Bird and Kegan and Kenzie Wertz; his great-granddaughter, Kaylee Hansen; brother, Lynn (Mary) Altemeier of West Des Moines; and his nieces and nephews.
