Forest (Frosty) Halverson, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2017, at 103 years of age.

Visitation for Frosty was Sunday at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 9 at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens in Marshalltown. Frosty was born May 11, 1914, on his family’s farmstead. He was educated near Laurel and graduated from Laurel High School in 1932. Frosty married Martha Conger in 1940, and they lived on the farm they worked near Laurel. She preceded him in death in 1975. He later married Dora Wells and she preceded him in death in 2000.

Frosty was a farmer and also enjoyed raising and training his horses for harness racing. He also enjoyed dancing for many years. In 1946, Frosty and Martha took in Larry Good to raise. Larry and Sandra “Sam” reside in Marshalltown.

Also surviving are Dora’s children, John (Pam) Wells of Marshalltown and Marjorie (Dave) Hunter of Texas; as well as grandchildren, Daniel (Jill) Wells, Kristin (David) Heese, Jordan Wells, Nichole Wells, Chase Hunter, James (Kristen) Hunter, Cassandra (Dennis) Schapker and Christina Good; and 10 great-grandchildren. He also had many special nieces and nephews. Along the years, Frosty had close relationships with special people. (You know who you are!) Besides two wives, he was also preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Harold and LaVerne Halverson; and one sister, Ruby Spence.
