Yoga at the Library
6 p.m. Monday — Certified yoga instructor, Meghan Davis, leads an introductory class for adults. No previous experience necessary. Attendees may bring a yoga mat or towel, if they wish. This event is sponsored by the Newton YMCA. Spaces are limited and registration is required to attend. Call the library at 641-792-4108 to reserve your spot.
Winter Clothing Drive
Oct. 2-14 — The library is collecting new cold weather clothing for kids ages 6-18. Donated clothing will be given to Newton Community Schools, to be distributed to children in need. Donations may be dropped off at the circulation desk. Items being collected include: new sweaters, hoodies, gloves, coats, hats, socks and scarves.
Japanese Taiko Drumming
6 p.m. Oct. 16 — All ages are invited to experience Japanese culture through the art of Taiko, a traditional drum used in festivals. Following the presentation, participants will have an opportunity to try playing Taiko. This event is sponsored by the Japan America Society in Iowa. This event is free and open to the public.
Pumpkin Decorating Contest
Entries Accepted Oct. 19-21 — Turn a pumpkin or gourd into your favorite book character. Pumpkins may be painted, dressed or accessorized but not carved and will be accepted for Youth/Family and Adult categories. The public will vote for winners in both categories beginning Oct. 23. Winners will receive a Halloween treat basket.

Downloading eBooks
We’re introducing a new way to download library ebooks and audiobooks. This new app offers a simpler way to download and read digital materials. Android and Apple users may download the free Libby by Overdrive app in the iTunes or Google Play stores for quicker, easier downloading. Science and the Afterlife
with Terry Fisk
6 p.m. Oct. 26 — Ghost hunter and co-founder of "Unexplained Research," Terry Fisk, discusses existing research on mediums, near death experiences, past life regressions and out of body experiences. Terry will also share his experiences working with medium, Allison DuBois (TV series "Medium") and psychic Chip Coffey ("Paranormal State"). This program is sponsored by the Newton Public Library Foundation. Free and open to the public.
