Newton woman charged with child endangerment

Child removed from home

A Newton woman is facing child endangerment charges following an alleged incident at a residence last week.

Mackenzie R. Cox, 27, is accused of striking a juvenile boy across the left side of his face as he was getting ready for school.

An officer was called to a home at 8 a.m. Sept. 20 on East 23rd Street South and met with an employee from the Iowa Department of Human Services.

Cox told police she did strike the boy, and it was not the first time she had struck him on the face, according to a police report.

The child was removed from the home as a result of the incident.

Cox was released and issued a citation to appear in court.
