Newton Police Department
• Devin O. Harsh, 21, of Newton, was charged with unauthorized use of a credit card at 7:51 p.m. Sept. 10 after police were called to Casey’s General Store on First Avenue East. Harsh was accused of purchasing $13.90 worth of merchandise belonging to the victim. The employee said the card was declined as credit. Harsh then attempted to used the card as debit. The employee knew the name on the card was not Harsh. Police spoke with the victim’s mother who said the wallet had been stolen and no one had authorization to use the victim’s credit card. Harsh was arrested Sept. 21 and taken to the Jasper County Jail.
• Mason R. Brumer, 19, of Baxter, was charged with possession of controlled substance marijuana and driving with a suspended license at 11:41 p.m. Sept. 21. Police stopped Brumer on East 23rd Street North in Newton for driving with a non-functioning brake light. Brumer’s license was suspended.and he was arrested. Brumer told police he had marijuana in his shoe and officers located 1.2 grams of marijuana. Brumer was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.
• Jason A. Browning, 39, of Patrick AFB, Fla. was charged with domestic assault injury or mental illness at 8:30 p.m. Sept. 22 after police were called to Walnut Creek Apartments in reference to an assault that happened earlier in the night. The victim had bruises and scratches on her forearms and a sore on the inside of her lower lip. Browning allegedly became intoxicated and angry before the assault. Browning was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.
• Joel D. Teska, 32, of Marshalltown, was arrested at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 22 in the Walmart parking lot on a Marshall County warrant for failure to appear for arraignment on two counts of child endangerment, assault with intent to commit sexual abuse, indecent contact with a child and lascivious acts with a child. Teska was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.
• Jeremy R. Williams, of Newton, was charged with fifth-degree theft at 2:18 p.m. Sept. 23 after police were called to Hy-Vee. Employees told police Williams left the store with a bag of candy without paying for it. Williams was stopped by employees and he told them he did take the candy because he was hungry. The candy was $2.98. Williams was released and issued a citation to appear in court.
• Susan A. Tiffany, 48, of Newton, was charged with driving while license denied or revoked at 6:50 p.m. Sept. 23 after police saw a vehicle on a curb next to a mailbox at 100 N. 15th Ave. W. The mailbox appeared to have been struck. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Tiffany and she told police she had struck the mailbox. Tiffany was driving with a suspended driver’s license. She was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.
