Newton High’s cross country teams competed in the 2017 Roy Griak Invitational meet on Saturday in St. Paul, Minn. The meet featured teams from eight states.
Unfortunately, there were technical problems with the timing system used in the meet hosted by the University of Minnesota, Newton girls’ head coach Rachelle Tipton said. Results posted following the races were not official.
Sarah Hopkins, UM head cross country coach and Griak Invitational high school race director, responded to a Newton Daily News email Sunday afternoon. Hopkins said they were working from their back-up cameras to determine the correct and official results.
A story on the Cardinal runners’ results and experience at the meet will be in Tuesday’s Newton Daily News.
