• Jacob A. Tinsley, 25, of Mingo, was charged with possession of controlled substance, methamphetamine at 5:05 p.m. Sept. 16 when an officer arrested Tinsley on Jasper County warrants. During his arrest, the officer found methamphetamine in Tinsley’s jeans. Tinsley was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Haley M. Esqueda, 22, of Newton, was charged with two counts of forgery at 8:35 p.m. Aug. 6 and at 5 p.m. Aug. 9. Esqueda is accused of using a fraudulent check at Hy-Vee on Aug. 6. Esqueda signed the check with a deceased person’s name. In the second incident, police were called to Check and Go in reference to stolen checks. The account for the check had been closed for a number of years. Esqueda was arrested at 10:30 p.m. Sept. 18 on a warrant for fourth-degree theft and for two charges of forgery. Esqueda was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Steven C. Shafer Jr., 42, of Des Moines, was charged with possession of controlled substance and unlawful possession of prescription drugs at 1:59 a.m. Sept. 17. Shafer was arrested in the 2000 block of Highway 224 North in Kellogg. Shafer was arrested for an active warrant in Jasper County. The officer searched him and found a plastic bag in his jacket which contained methamphetamine. Shafer has three previous convictions for possession controlled substance. Shafer also had a plastic wrapper with eight whole and hales prescription pills. The pills contained amphetamine and dextroamphetamine which are schedule II drugs. Shafer told the officer the pills were his and that he had a prescription for a recent injury. Shafer was unable to provide a prescription, paper or container for the drugs. Shafer was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.
