Gary Pyle

Gary Pyle, 85, of Baxter, passed away Monday, Sept. 18, 2017, at Accura Healthcare of Baxter. A private family burial will be at Restland Cemetery in Baxter, as Gary requested.

Gary was born June 20, 1932, in Perry, to Loren and Evelyn (Orr) Pyle. When he was 12 his family moved to Baxter. Gary graduated from Baxter High School in 1952. On Oct. 3, 1952, he married Carol Jean Petermeier and the couple moved to a farm outside Baxter, where Gary was a dairy farmer. In the early 1970s the family moved into Baxter and Gary bought a pump truck off of the Milligan brothers and began Gary’s Pump Service. In the 1980s Gary expanded the family business and began digging graves, mowing and a snow removal service. In 1991, Carol passed away. Gary married Delores Miller in 1992, the couple later divorced but they remained very close friends.

He was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ in Baxter. Gary enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He loved his work and missed it dearly when he was forced to quit, just four months ago. 

Those left to cherish Gary’s memory are his children, Russ Pyle of Baxter, Dave (Bebe) Pyle of Baxter and Scott (Charlene) Pyle of Madrid; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Steve Smith; nephew, JJ Pyle; niece, Emily Pyle; close friend, Delores Pyle; and many friends.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Carol; daughter, Janie Smith; and brother, Jim Pyle.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Gary Pyle memorial fund in care of Dave Pyle, P.O. Box 571, Baxter, Iowa 50028.

Fredregill Funeral & Cremation Care in Baxter, has been entrusted with the care of Gary and his family.
