Kenneth Wayne Elscott

Kenneth (Ken) Wayne Elscott was called home Sunday, Sept. 17, 2017, in Sebring, Fla. Ken was born in Sully to Mary (Batty) and Wallace Elscott July 30, 1927. Ken graduated from Newton High School. In June of 1949, he married Mary Louise “Lou” Jess in Newton. Ken and Mary Lou’s marriage was blessed with four children.

Ken served in the Navy during World War II. Ken enlisted in the Air Force and completed a career spanning 21 years. Ken served in Vietnam, England and various “state side” locations. After closure of his Air Force career, Ken returned to Iowa with residences in Des Moines, Newton and Iowa City. Ken provided support to his fellow veterans as an employee for the American Legion serving as a veterans advocate on issues with the Veterans Administration. Ken was proud of his military service. He was active in the Tuy Hoa Reunion of Vietnam Vets.

On July 30, 2002, Ken married Linda Maude McDaniel at the Little Brown Chapel in Iowa. Ken and Linda traveled extensively for several years. After “seeing the country” Ken and Linda settled in Sebring, Fla.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Wallace Elscott; and his wife, Mary Lou Elscott. Ken is survived by his wife, Linda of Sebring, Fla.; his son, Jerry (Susan) Elscott of Wichita, Kan.; daughters, Betty Elscott of Pella, Jo Ann (Jay) Vermeer of Pella and Jon (Peggy) Elscott of Overland Park, Kan. Ken is also survived by three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Plans for a memorial and for a celebration of life are pending.
