Tigerhawks suffer road loss to rival Belle Plaine

BELLE PLAINE — Colfax-Mingo’s football team fell behind early and never recovered on the road against Belle Plaine on Friday night.

The Tigerhawks trailed 20-0 at halftime before losing 37-13 during a Class A District 5 contest. Colfax-Mingo dropped to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in district play, and Belle Plaine improved to 3-1 and 2-0.

Senior Reegan Van Dyke played a part in both Tigerhawk touchdowns. Van Dyke hooked up with senior Alex Lewis for a 35-yard touchdown to put Colfax-Mingo on the board and then he scored on a 1-yard TD run as time expired to close the gap to 24 points.

Van Dyke finished 19-of-32 through the air for 210 yards and a touchdown, and he also rushed for 34 yards and another score.

Lewis tallied four catches for 62 yards in the loss. Junior Zarek Hill had six catches for 62 yards, and junior Damir Gumerov added three catches for 20 yards and seven carries for 32 yards.

Van Dyke completed passes to six different receivers.

Junior Holister Koenig had three catches for 25 yards, sophomore Brady Berkey had one catch for 22 yards and sophomore Trinity Schroeder grabbed two catches for 19 yards.

Defensively, Hill had 10 tackles and a pick. Senior Jake Dunsbergen also had 10 tackles, and Gumerov collected 7 1/2 tackles. Lewis recovered two fumbles.

The Tigerhawks will attempt to snap a two-game losing streak against Grand View Christian. It is Colfax-Mingo’s Homecoming game, and it kicks off at 7 p.m. Friday in Colfax.
